What exactly is batana, and where does yours come from?
Batana is the oil pressed from the nut of the American oil palm. Ours comes from La Moskitia in eastern Honduras, hand-crafted in small batches by Miskito families who have made it the same way for generations. One ingredient, nothing added, nothing taken out.

Because it is raw. In its unaltered form batana sets firm at room temperature and melts the moment it touches your skin. The clear yellow oils you see elsewhere have been refined, bleached or deodorised, and that process strips out most of what makes batana worth using. Raw is the whole point.

Smoky and nutty, a little like roasted coffee or toasted nuts. That comes from the traditional roasting step, not from fragrance. We add no perfume and no masking scent. Most people come to like it; on hair it fades within a few hours.
How do I use it?
How do I use it?
Scoop a small amount, warm it between your palms until it melts, and work it through. Three ways people use it:
- As a pre-wash mask on dry hair and scalp, 15 to 30 minutes before you shampoo.
- Overnight, massaged into the scalp and lengths, washed out in the morning.
- As a finishing touch, the smallest amount smoothed over ends and flyaways.
Two or three times a week is plenty. Start with less than you think you need. It is dense, and too much will read as greasy.

Yes. It softens dry skin, and people use it on hands, elbows, cuticles and beards. Same rule: a very small amount, warmed first.

About a month for most people using it two or three times a week on hair and scalp. If you are only using it on ends, or only once a week, it will stretch considerably longer. If you have long or thick hair and use it as a full mask, the 3.5 oz jar is the better value.
